The employees of the Danish State Railway (DSB) make committed efforts every day to ensure that over 500,000 Danes travel to and from home by train.

For DSB, the team at If provides tailored health insurance with particular emphasis on prevention, physical and mental well-being, in addition to meeting the daily insurance needs of several thousand of their employees. On the tracks, in the workshops, on the platforms, in the offices, during cleaning and elsewhere. A dedicated DSB team at If is ready to help with everything from immediate psychological assistance to a wide range of treatment services, online help, surgery, hospital visits and more.

A diverse workforce

Maintaining a diverse workforce that prioritises a culture of inclusion has been a strategic decision and a key part of DSB’s social responsibility approach, which also influences their choice of insurance.

Ida Agerbæk, Working Environment Consultant at DSB explains, “in our choice of insurance, we emphasise the importance of broad coverage, and require the same protection for all employees. This reflects our wish to give equal rights to everyone at DSB, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, and education.”

Attractive to new employees

The choice of insurance is strategically important to DSB. It helps attract and retain new employees, reduces absenteeism, and minimises sick leave. Additionally, it promotes employee well-being, leading to better performance.

According to Agerbæk, insurance is an attractive benefit that supports employees in their daily lives, by providing easy access to health and treatment services. "It offers peace of mind, knowing that treatment is guaranteed if the need arises,” she explains. “Many employees are aware of the insurance options, and it makes a real difference to them that these possibilities exists."

Using data for preventive measures

"We see great potential in utilising data from If, to initiate preventive measures for our employees,” states Agerbæk. “For example, many of our employees are craftsmen, which increases the risk of repeated injury from heavy lifting in daily work. With this knowledge, we can take proactive steps to create concrete solutions to manage these types of risks."

Smooth claims handling

For DSB, it is crucial that claims handling is seamless and efficient—from notification to approval and reimbursement. It is vital that process runs smoothly with a dedicated contact person at If who understands the specific agreement.

“We truly appreciate the professional client team at If,” Agerbæk assures. Their expertise extends both to technical insurance details and the broader industry, making claims handling smooth and effective.”

When employees are happy at work everyone commuting on the trains feels the difference.

Looking ahead

Agerbæk concludes, “We hope our insurance will—to a greater extent—cover treatment for people with chronic conditions, with the goal of maintaining or improving their health. This would support employee retention and promote a diverse workforce focused on well-being and job satisfaction—even for those managing chronic illnesses.”

DSB understands that job satisfaction is vital! When employees are happy at work everyone commuting on the trains feels the difference. We at If are proud and excited that DSB has chosen If health insurance for their employees.
